MSNVA’s Scholarship Recipient

Alex Saffran
Fairfax Station, VA

I am so honored and thankful to be selected as the 2022 MSNVA Scholarship Recipient. I grew up in Fairfax Station, where I was introduced to the field of medicine at a young age: I quickly realized that there was nothing else I wanted to do. Outside of medicine, one of my biggest passions is working with the Special Olympics. I started volunteering with a team based out of Burke, VA, and have continued coaching for the past 15 years. I attended the University of Rochester for my undergraduate studies, where I graduated with a degree in Brain and Cognitive Science. I subsequently attended VCU School of Medicine for a Master’s Degree in Physiology and Biophysics, as well as Medical School. I am currently completing my intern year at VCU and will be attending UVA next year for the remainder of my Anesthesiology residency training. I hope to have the opportunity to come back to Northern VA to practice medicine and give back to a community that has given so much to me!
